Our story
31 years together. 22 years of Sloane Parker.
A love story that started on a dock, and a little shop that grew up with us.

A note from us
Hi, we are Sloane and Parker.
If you are reading this, you probably want to know who is behind the clothes. Fair question. It is us. Sloane chooses every piece. Parker carries the boxes, fixes the shelves and tells her when something looks good on her. He is usually right, but please do not tell him.
We have been together for 31 years and we have run Sloane Parker for 22 of them. In that time we raised two kids, lost count of the golf balls at the bottom of Lake Norman, and learned what a woman really wants from her clothes once life gets good: soft, easy, put together, and still lovely next year.
This page is our story. It is a little long. Grab a coffee.

1995
Our friend Linda took this one that weekend. Parker had more hair. I had more patience. We met on a dock in Annapolis
October, the Annapolis Boat Show. I was 23 and helping out at a friend’s booth. Parker was 27, sunburned, and selling marine hardware two docks down. He walked over to borrow a pen and kept it for three days, so he would have a reason to come back.
He still has that pen, by the way. It lives in the kitchen drawer.

1997
A June wedding and a borrowed boat
We married in June 1997 in my parents’ church in Annapolis. My mother played the organ. The small pearl earrings I wore were hers, and I have worn them almost every day since.
We left the reception on a friend’s sailboat and ran aground ten minutes later. Parker still calls it “a soft start.”

1999
Sunday mornings on the dock, then and now. Home on Lake Norman
Parker’s job brought us south to Cornelius, North Carolina, a small town on Lake Norman. We bought a brick house with a porch that needed everything, and an old pontoon boat that needed even more.
Sunday mornings on the water with a thermos of coffee started that first summer. We have not missed many since.

2004
Opening week, September 2004. The mums were from my mother. A little shop by the marina
After ten years as a pediatric nurse I knew two things. Scrubs are the most comfortable clothes ever made, and nothing in the stores near us felt that easy while still looking put together.
So in September 2004 we opened a tiny white shop by the marina. Parker built the shelves from the planks of an old dock. The first week we sold eleven sweaters, nine of them to people we knew. I was thrilled anyway.

2011
The kitchen island, where most decisions still get made. Our friends moved away, so we started shipping
Friends from the lake moved to Florida, Arizona and Ohio, and kept calling to ask for “that sweater, the navy one.” So we started packing boxes at the kitchen island. One box became ten, and ten became a lot more.
Today almost all of Sloane Parker happens online, and I still choose every piece the same way: I feel the fabric, look at the fit on a real body, and ask myself if I would wear it to lunch at the club.

2019
Saturday nine holes. He is late, I am ready. Golf at 47
With our youngest almost off to college, I finally said yes to Parker’s Saturday golf. Handicap 26, and proud of it.
Those mornings taught me a lot about clothes. You want to move, you want to stay warm at eight and cool at noon, and you still want to look nice for lunch on the terrace afterwards. Many of our quarter zips and knits come straight out of those Saturdays.

2022
Sunday dinner. Parker on the smoker, as always. An empty nest and a full table
Caroline became a nurse like her mom and moved to Raleigh. Will moved to Atlanta. The house got quiet, so Sunday dinner got bigger: neighbors, friends from the club, whoever comes.
Parker smokes a brisket, I set the table, and somebody always asks where I got my cardigan. You can guess the answer.

2026
Iced tea on the clubhouse porch after nine holes. 31 years, and still the good part
This October we celebrate 31 years together and 22 years of Sloane Parker. We still argue about who forgot the sunscreen. We still drink our coffee on the porch. And I still choose every piece in this shop as if it were for me, because most of the time, it is.
“Is that new? It looks good on you.”
Parker, about once a week

The Off Season Sale
Why we have The Off Season Sale
Every year in the fall the course closes for the season and the boat comes out of the water. That is our signal. Since 2004 we have cleared the racks at the end of the season to make room for what comes next, and our customers know it as The Off Season Sale.
It started with a handwritten sign on the door of the little shop. Today it means up to 60% off almost everything, plus a little extra when you buy more: 10% on 2 items, 15% on 3, 20% on 4 and 30% on 5 or more, applied automatically at checkout.
It is our way of saying thank you for another season.

Thank you for being part of our story
Whether you found us this week or have been with us since the little shop by the marina, thank you. Every order still makes Parker ring the old ship’s bell in the kitchen. The neighbors have stopped asking.
With love from the lake, Sloane & Parker
